Today's offering showcases this classic and beautifully restored 1960's Omega Seamaster with Tiffany blue dial.
It measures just under 35mm in diameter without the crown, in between the sizes of a Rolex Date and a Datejust.
Powering the watch is Omega's top-tier caliber 552 movement with twenty-four jewels (seven more than in many Seamaster versions from the period). The 552 was one of the last superior 500's series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs. Arguably the finest mass-produced automatic movement from the era, despite the appreciation it receives it too remains not yet fully appreciated.
It is fully Omega down to the hands and crown. Its monococque - or one-piece - case, which achieved high water resistance ratings by not having a separate case back, presents as mint on the wrist,
It has just finished a true expertly done restoration. The case presents as just short of mint with slight signs of polishing to the back. On the wrist it presents as mint.
The original Omega dial has been meticulously custom refinished - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.
As part of the restoration the movement has been freshly overhauled by a Master Watchmakers. It is running strong and very true.
1950's and 60's Seamasters are great buys as parts are readily available for their well-made movements, and they're not hard to service.
For the finishing touch a new aftermarket calfskin leather strap has been installed making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to the watch's performance.
Note: Published examples of similar watches can be found in Marco Richon's work Omega: A Journey Through Time, 2007, pg. 403.
A more than half-century old Seamaster that looks like new on the wrist!
Omega is perhaps best known by watch connoisseurs for its Seamaster line of dive watches. Introduced in 1948, they have been embraced by water sports enthusiasts and often marry a striking look with a high performance movement.
