Today's offering showcases this very fine automatic IWC powered by the Albert Pellaton designed Caliber 8541 movement.
This mechanism's automatic winding system is a technical masterpiece, earning it high praise - Gisbert Brunner and Christian Pfeiffer-Belli in their work, Wristwatches Armbanduhren Montres-bracelets, proclaimed the 8541 "one of the best automatic movements ever built in Switzerland."
The famous watchmaker Donald de Carle, in his book Complicated Watches and their Repair, remarked that IWC's special automatic winding mechanism was "a simple and ingenious system, well constructed and beautifully finished."
IWC built this watch in 1966 at the same time they were building their famous Ingenieur line. It is full size with a 36mm diameter, the same size as a Datejust.
It has just finished a true expertly done restoration. It is fully IWC down to all hands and presents in gorgeous condition.
Its pleasing case presents as just short of perfect mint. The only wear is a tiny bit on one lug and fairly light signs of previous polishing. On the wrist it presents beautiful. Its dial has been meticulously refinished - its black printing could pass as IWC factory done.
As part of the restoration the movement has been freshly expertly overhauled by a Master Watchmaker. It winds very smoothly and is keeping very accurate time. Please inquire if you would like photos of the inside.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.
A more than five and a half decade old IWC that looks like new on the wrist!
