1968 Omega Geneve Vintage Mens Cal. 552 Waterproof Style Dress Watch - Stainless Steel

Omega

Item No. 9121

The wristwatch showcased in today's offering is a classic and uncommon example of one of Omega's vintage gent's Geneve watches.

Beginning in 1953 Omega placed the name Geneve on the dials of some of the members of the 30mm collection which at the time were produced in the company's workshops in Geneve (to put Geneve on a dial of a watch certain components and processes must take place in Geneve). According to Omega, the name referred to to the Genevan Observatory where the early 30mm calibers set a number of records.

It features a classic, waterproof style tonneau case, matte black dial with baguette markers, and automatic movement.

We've owned many similar watches, but this is the first we've had in this style that is automatic. To accommodate the larger movement the case is just slightly larger than the ubiquitous handwound model.

Powering the watch is Omega's top-tier caliber 552 movement used in Seamasters from the era, and one of the last superior 500's series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs. It has 24 jewels, seven more than in many similar movements, is one of the finest mass-produced automatic movements from era.

It has all of its original parts. It has just finished a true expertly done restoration and presents in gorgeous condition. The photos couldn't begin to do it justice!

The case presents as mint. As is common with these, it has a bit of aging hidden in the engine bay. The dial has been meticulously restored - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.

As part of the restoration, a Master Watchmaker has freshly overhauled it. It is running very strong and true, keeping time essentially on par with a new Omega in our testing position.

For the finishing touch, it comes equipped with a brand new calfskin leather strap and aftermarket buckle done in an Omega style making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

A five and a half decade old Omega that looks like new on the wrist!
