Today's offering showcases this superior and uncommon IWC with striking light money green colored dial.
It is an uncommon model - though we about a hundred IWC's from the era, we'd never seen this one before. It is pleasingly full size for the era, measuring just over 36mm in diameter without the crown, the same size as a Rolex Datejust.
Powering the watch is its Albert Pellaton designed Caliber 854 movement.
This mechanism's automatic winding system is a technical masterpiece, earning it high praise - Gisbert Brunner and Christian Pfeiffer-Belli in their work, Wristwatches Armbanduhren Montres-bracelets, proclaimed the 85x series "one of the best automatic movements ever built in Switzerland."
And the famous watchmaker Donald de Carle, in his book Complicated Watches and their Repair, stated that IWC's special automatic winding mechanism was "a simple and ingenious system, well constructed and beautifully finished."
IWC built the movement of this watch in c. 1969 at the same they were building their famous Ingenieur line.
It has a striking retro case that has a massive slightly concave bezel that protects the recessed crown. Its retro style carries over onto the dial which has whitened steel baton indices similar in style to some Rolexes from the era.
All of its parts are original down to its dial, hands, and its original signed winding crown. It has just finished a true expertly done restoration. It presents in gorgeous condition - a 9.7 out of 10.
Its case presents as mint with light signs of previous polishing.
Its original IWC dial has been meticulously custom refinished in a distinctive light money green color - the printing could pass as IWC factory done to the naked eye.
As part of the restoration, the movement has been freshly overhauled by a Master Watchmaker. It winds smoothly and is running very strongly and keeping very accurate time.
For the finishing touch, it has been equipped with a brand new aftermarket leather strap and aftermarket IWC style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
You won't be disappointed - a more than half-century old IWC that looks like new on the wrist!
