1973 IWC Vintage Mens Tonneau Automatic Pellaton Engine Watch - Stainless Steel

IWC

Item No. 8593

The very fine automatic IWC featured in today's offering is powered by the superior caliber 442 movement with winding system designed by Albert Pellaton. Extremely well-constructed, this mechanism's ingenious Pellaton system has earned high praise.

Built for only three years from 1971 through 1974, the caliber 442's winding system shared the same design as the well-known mens 85x series of movements found in IWC's mens dress watches and in Ingenieurs.

Gisbert Brunner and Christian Pfeiffer-Belli in their work, Wristwatches Armbanduhren Montres-bracelets, proclaimed mens Pellaton winding system based movement "one of the best automatic movements ever built in Switzerland."

And the famous watchmaker Donald de Carle, in his book Complicated Watches and their Repair, stated that IWC's special automatic winding mechanism was "a simple and ingenious system, well constructed and beautifully finished."

As a mens midsize, it is well-suited for someone with smaller wrists, though its case is just slightly larger than a Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse with a similar style.

It has all of its original parts and has just finished a true expertly done restoration. It presents in gorgeous condition.

Its case presents as mint. The dial has been meticulously restored - the printing could pass as IWC factory done to the naked eye.

As part of the restoration the movement has been freshly overhauled by a Master Watchmaker. It winds smoothly and is keeping accurate time.

For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a new calfskin leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

A just under five decade old IWC that amazingly looks like new on the wrist!
