1983 Omega Seamaster Mariner III Mens Uncommon & Cool Vintage Quartz Watch - Stainless Steel

Omega

Item No. 8741

Today's offering showcases this classic and all-original Seamaster Mariner III in gorgeous condition.

Nautically themed with a diver's style black dial with luminous markers and interesting hands it is one of the very seldom seen early 80's Omega models.

The very distinctive bezel on this seldom seen model, named the Marine, is suggestive of a ships port hole.

The look of the watch slightly resembles an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and has a Gerald Genta look to it. The watch was presumably designed by Carol Didisheim, the designer of the original Manhattan that followed the year after which became one of Omega's iconic designs. Its style is very similar to the Manhattan - it shares the very unusual characteristic of having the crystal also function as the bezel with design painted on the underside - and is interesting to think about as seemingly the pre-cursor to that iconic watch whose first version was made 1984-1985.

The reason for the use of a crystal functioning as an underpainted bezel was for both design and practical reasons. The rivets were designed to ensure water resistance by holding the crystal and gasket firmly against the case body. The design called for the crystal to be seated well into the case and there was a need to eliminate the bezel and thus lower the profile of the watch to match the ultra-thin trends of the time.

Powering the watch is its original Omega caliber 1430 quartz mechanism with quick-setting date which was still used in modern Omega iterations.

Our rare Mariner is in gorgeous all-original condition. It presents as a 9.8 out of 10. It's unlikely that you will ever find a Mariner III that presents any better.

Its case is mint. As its original crystal. Its semi-integrated original Omega bracelet with interesting design presents as mint with the slightest amount of stretch.

A Master Watchmaker has performed any needed servicing. For the finishing touch we have meticulously detailed it making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
