We are pleased to offer today this special transitional matte dial GMT. It has all of its original parts and even its original box, desirable "punched number" certificate, bezel booklet, and chronometer tag.
These so-called transitional models are desirable not only because they are relatively uncommon but also because some collectors consider them to possess the "best of both worlds": The sought-after classic vintage GMT look with the convenience of a quick-set date.
Its black bezel, seen less often than Pepsi bezels, and Oyster bracelet give it a classy vintage style.
Rolex first released the 16750 GMT circa 1981 and switched to a glossy dial with white gold marker surrounds around 1985. In addition to being in production for only approximately four years, Rolex routinely equipped matte dial 16750's with a glossy dial when they went in for servicing, a fact that has made these matte dial watches increasingly collectable.
Its case presents in excellent condition with fairly mild signs of previous polishing. Its tritium matte dial is original and untouched with toned luminous, parts of which have aged off of their plots. It has a true vintage look. Its original Oyster bracelet is scratch-free with fairly mild stretch and signs of previous polishing.
Is it in perfect condition? It's not, but we love its honesty and true vintage GMT look. Being all-original and having box and papers gives it a history, provenance, and honest character that we love.
One of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealer and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center to be an authorized Rolex watchmaker, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, installing a new correct Rolex mainspring, Rolex crystal, and gaskets, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (an $795 value).
It is running very strong and true, keeping time on par with a new GMT in our testing recording position.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.

History of the GMT
When the world's first successful intercontinental jet passenger aircraft, the Boeing 707, entered service in 1956 it brought with it a new phenomenon - "Jet Lag." Pan American, at the time the world's largest airline, worried about the effect of jet lag on its pilots. In response to research on the subject, Pan Am advised its pilots to stay on "home time" when traveling abroad.
To meet the pilot's needs for easily knowing both local time and "home time" Pan Am formed a joint task force with Rolex to create a special watch for just that purpose - the GMT Master. Named after Greenwich Mean Time, the watch featured a 24-hour hand complemented by a rotating 24-hour bezel.
The GMT Master watch embodies the qualities sought after by today's aviators and international travelers: distinctive design, precision, sturdiness, and multiple time-zone capabilities. It features a rotating and locking 24-hour bezel, a special, 24-hour hand that displays the time in a second time zone as well as distinguishing between day and night, and a quick-set date.
