c. 1970 Audemars Piguet Vintage Very Rare Mens Gerald Genta Designed Ref. 5369 Steel Watch - 200 Movements Made

Audemars Piguet

Item No. 9520

Today's offering showcases this very rare and desirable classic Audemars Piguet mens TV shaped dress watch in gorgeous restored condition. Our photos couldn't begin to do it justice.

The distinctive aesthetic of this watch was crafted by the renowned designer Gerald Genta, widely acknowledged as the most famous and preeminent luxury watch designer of the last century. His collaborations with AP are particularly renowned.

Starting in 1970, Gerald Genta conceived some of the most iconic and high-end watch designs, including the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, the Patek Philippe Nautilus, select versions of the Omega Constellation, the Bvlgari Bvlgari, and the reinvention of the IWC Ingenieur, among his most notable projects. The aesthetics of this watch are not-so-distant from the famed Royal Oak.

With a portfolio boasting such prestigious labels, it comes as no surprise that Gerald Genta seamlessly blended the sophistication of elite brands with daring and ultra-sophisticated designs. Hailing from the heart of Switzerland's watchmaking epicenter, Genta is celebrated for pushing technical boundaries while honoring the rich heritage of his homeland's master craftsmen.

This present reference 5369 features an elegant stainless steel "TV" shaped case, and ours has a royal blue dial (face) with thin whitened steel baton makers. It presents with a timeless class.

This tonneau-shaped wristwatch stands out distinctly from the manufacturer's usual offerings. It represents a pioneering approach to case design, as it forgoes the conventional screw back in favor of placing the movement in its own compartment that sits between between the crystal and main case body and its back. This innovative construction not only boosts the watch's ability to resist moisture and dust but also contributes to its appealing aesthetic.

Powering the watch is AP's very rare transitional caliber 2002, with a total production of only 200 units. The two rarities of the Gerald Genta design and extremely low production movement combine to form a highly distinctive and interesting watch. We believe these watches are underappreciated and undervalued right now. They simply tick too many boxes to still be selling at this price point.

Like only the very finest watches in the world - select watches from the likes of Patek, AP, and V & C, it is adjusted to five positions, heat, cold, and even isochronism. And like Pateks from the era and following it has a free-sprung balance with gold Microstella screws on the balance for regulating it - it is extremely high-grade.

It has all of its original parts and has just finished a true expertly done restoration. It presents in gorgeous condition.

Its case presents as mint. Its dial has been meticulously restored - its printing could pass as Audemars Piguet factory done to the naked eye.

As part of the restoration a Master Watchmaker has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $695 value).

It is running very true, keeping time on par with a new AP in our testing recording position.

For the finishing touch it comes equipped with a brand new calfskin leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
