Today's offering showcases this rare and handsome 9K Art Deco rectangular Rolex sold in 1927.
In the first decade after the turn of the twentieth century when someone referred to a gentleman's watch they most often meant one object - a large, timing instrument kept in the pocket. That changed in part because of Hans Wilsdorf, a true legend in timekeeping history, who founded Rolex Watch Co. in 1908. When the first World War erupted, demand rose sharply for these novel watches as Allied servicemen needed a more suitable way to access their vital timepieces.
At the close of the war, watch company's continued further down the path of having wristwatches eventually replace pocket watches as the timepiece of choice.
At the heart of the Art Deco era, shortly after their release of the very first Oyster watches and before they began to specialize in mostly sport watches, Rolex crafted dress wristwatches of very fine quality.
This very fine Art Deco Rolex features a classic rose gold case and very high grade Rolex Prima handwound chronometer movement adjusted to run accurately across a full six positions and a range of temperatures. During this period, after assembly and testing, Rolex labeled their best performing movements with some version of the three-tiered "Prima designation."
The centerpiece of this watch is its gorgeous Art Deco dial with sunburst guilloche and large luminous numbers - our photos couldn't begin to do it justice!
Its case is very good condition with only light rippling to the back. It retains strong unpolished stamping. Its wonderful dial, restored in vintage times, presents beautifully. And its very fine Prima-grade Rolex movement is keeping very accurate time.
Our Master Watchmaker, our highest level watchmaker, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with genuine Rolex parts, installing a new mineral glass crystal, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $795 value).
For the finishing touch we have installed a new Hirsch diamond calf leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
Don't miss the chance to own a rare solid gold Art Deco Rolex with gorgeous dial!.
