1940's Angelus Vintage Large Mens Triple Calendar Chronograph, 18K Gold Plated - The Chronodato

Angelus

Item No. 8863SH

Today's offering showcases this beautiful Chronodato with original dial similar to one I recently sold out of my personal collection...for $100,000 less than a comparable Rolex.

It has an awesome large aviator-style chronograph look that tracks the date, day of the week, and month. It's stylish and even practical.

And its movement is a beauty to behold.

When talking about Dato Compax's, the first one that often comes to mind is the Rolex 6036. It's probably the most famous DC. The only problem is that it often costs north of $100,000.

Which is why affordable Dato-Compax's like this one continue to become more and more desirable, and I think they will make good long-term investments.

Not only vastly cheaper, some of these more affordable DC's are just as fine in many ways.

Comparing it to the Rolex, this watch also has a very finely finished and beautiful movement (which is in pleasing condition), a much more elegant and balanced dial, and it only costs about 1/40 as much. These reasons and its nice large size are why until recently, I had one in my collection.

And unlike the Rolex this watch is a so-called “manufacture,” meaning that Angelus did not use a movement from another brand like Rolex did by using a Valjoux movement, but instead made it all in-house (both design/development, manufacturing, and assembly).

The movement is the Angelus caliber SF 217 which is based on the Angelus SF 215. Something to note, the SF 215 is actually the same movement Panerai used in their Mare Nostrum chronograph. So, in a sense, the basis of the Angelus Chronodato is the same as one of the first Panerai chronographs.

It has all of its original parts and presents beautifully. The case presents nicely with previous wear on the seam where it meets the back. On the wrist, it presents very nicely. Its dial is original and untouched and shows only light aging.

One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with genuine correct Angelus parts, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $995 value). The movement is running very strongly.

For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new crocodile strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
