1940's Movado Vintage Triple Calendar Larger Size "FDR's Watch" - 18K Rose Gold & Steel - The Calendograph

Movado

Item No. 10409SH

During Movado's glorious period from 1912 through the 1950's, when such innovations as the polyplan movement, Calendomatic, and exceptional in-house chronographs pushed the envelope of horological technology, and original designs such as the Museum watch took their place in history, their wristwatches enjoyed a level of prestige reserved only for works of very fine watchmakers.

Today's offering showcases this wonderful all-original full size Movado Calendograph watch. It is the seldom seen large size of the 14800 series, much larger than the much more often seen 14816 and similar references. Its big and beautiful, measuring a full 36mm by 42mm.

Another striking feature of this piece is its uncommon rose gold and stainless steel construction. While most examples of these Movado calendar watches were produced in yellow gold or steel, rose gold versions are encountered far less often. The combination of the warm 18K rose gold bezel with the stainless steel case body creates a particularly beautiful combination in our opinion.

This original Calendograph checks a lot of boxes.

The colors of the two-tone dial, blue date track, red outer track and date hand pointer, and rose gold and steel case all provide striking interest.

This particular design holds an especially interesting place in history. The same model of Movado Calendograph in the smaller size is famously associated with President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who owned and reportedly wore one during the final months of his presidency, including the Malta and Yalta Conferences in 1945. Roosevelt’s watch was retailed through Tiffany & Co., but the underlying model - the 14800 series Movado Calendograph triple calendar - remains the same celebrated design seen here. This example represents the larger version of that same iconic watch, making it especially appealing for modern wear while preserving the historic design.

Powered by an in-house Movado cal. 470 movement, the watch possesses capabilities that track the date, day of the week, and month.

It is all-original and in truly beautiful condition.

Its multicolor dial is in excellent condition with only very light aging, even a bit less when viewed in person than the photos suggest.

Its case is just short of mint condition with only very light wear and light signs of previous polishing.

*Kindly note that the mark on the top left lug appears to be a surprisingly placed precious metal stamp.

One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $895 value).

It is running very strong and true, keeping time essentially on par with a new watch.

For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new Teju lizard skin strap and matching rose gold tone buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
