Today's offering showcases this pleasing and rare original C.O.T. Certified Pre-Owned example of one of the company's distinctive and fine 1940's ladies dress watches.
Complete with its 18K rose gold case that features elegant dropping lugs and a light silver dial (face), it has a timeless elegance and class.
While we have owned many dozens of ladies dress watches from this period and close to a dozen of this exact model, ref. 4211, this is the first we have seen of a ladies Rolex dress watch from the era having a luminous dial and hands. It is quite striking and really changes the look and feel of the watch in our opinion.
Powering this gem is a fine, early Rolex timekeeping mechanism. Featuring Rolex's patented Super Balance system as well as possessing a tonneau shape for longer running reserve and more accurate timekeeping, it employed Rolex's premier movement technology for the era.
While many of the company's similar ladies dress watches from the era were very nice, this reference pleases us a little more in the beauty of its case design.
We were fortunate to acquire in such fine original condition, appearing to have been worn carefully with an appreciation for its value and spent most of its life stored away. With the exception of the winding crown, the rest of the watch is all original. Even the mint condition mineral glass crystal is original.
Its case is just short of mint condition and still retains its original Rolex factory applied brushing to its lugs. It shows hardly any signs of previous polishing and retains very strong lines. It's a gorgeous example.
Its rare luminous dial shows naturally aging around the periphery and some toning from the luminous in the hands. It is original and untouched. Please inquire if you would like it refinished.
One of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealer and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center to be an authorized Rolex watchmaker, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, polishing the pivots, installing a new mainspring, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $695 value).
We have timed it on a machine that spins it in all directions simulating it being worn on the wrist. It is keeping very accurate time.
For the finishing touch, we have installed a new black cord strap designed to replicate a vintage style that adjusts to fit virtually any size wrist making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Accompanying the watch is a very cool original Rolex for Bucherer spoon from the period, from when Rolex watches of this era were sold through Bucherer.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
