Besides the thick solid gold case and fine movement, the hand-crafted guilloche dial adds to the watch's impressiveness. Powering the watch is a caliber 476/2 movement. At the end of the Second World War, the mood was geared towards reconstruction, efficiency and pragmatism. Jaeger-LeCoultre turned its inventive genius to the area of automatic round timepieces, the first forerunners of the many generations that followed that would eventually become the Master Control line. The company's first automatic watch housed a Jaeger-LeCoultre 476 caliber mechanism like this driven by a 'bumper' weight.

So advanced was the movement it was adapted by Vacheron & Constantin for use in early automatics of theirs (see comparative photo below).
