In the 1950's, in the midst of their high output of utilitarian Oyster sports watches, Rolex also made much more elegant dress watches. These fine wristwatches often combine a superior hand-wound mechanism with beautiful aesthetics.
The classic Rolex showcased in today's offering is an example of this phenomenon. It features timelessly vintage styling and a well-executed handwound movement.
The centrepiece of the watch is its elegant silver dial with distinctive vintage styled 18K gold markers.
It measures 35mm without the crown - in between the diameters of the Rolex Date and Datejust models from the era.
Powering the watch is its Rolex caliber 1215 handwound movement shock protected in two places. It was serviced by Rolex Japan in 1989 and was overhauled with any needed inside parts replaced, and a new crown and crystal installed.
It has all of its Rolex parts and has just finished a true expertly done restoration.
It case presents as scratch-free moderate signs of previous polishing to the case. On the wrist it presents beautifully.
Its silver dial has been meticulously restored - the printing could pass as Rolex factory done to the naked eye.
As part of the restoration, its movement has just been overhauled by a Master Watchmaker. It is running very accurately, keeping time on par with a new Rolex in our testing position.
For the finishing touch, it has been equipped with a brand new leather strap and aftermarket Rolex style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
Accompanying the watch are its service papers from Rolex Japan in 1989 and the pouch that holds them.
Your watch is important to us, and we will take care of it for its lifetime.
