In vintage times, as lifestyle paces moved faster and faster, top Swiss firms needed a way to enhance the experiences of their now frequently travelling top clients. The renowned engineers at Jaeger-LeCoultre rose to the occasion by creating the company's famed Memovox alarm wristwatch in 1951.
This special wristwatch featured a fully mechanical alarm system that its owner could use to better organize and govern his most precious possession - his time. To pull off this technological marvel, Jaeger-LeCoultre had to equip these watches with a second power winding spring, inner gearing, and even an additional stem and crown, making nearly an entire second movement that worked seamlessly in conjunction with the normal timing portion.
Today's offering showcases this very pleasing example of a classic and very early Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox. It is fully JLC down to its hands and both winding crowns.
Its full size original 35mm 18K gold case - in between the size of a Rolex Date and a Datejust - is in excellent condition. Its egg-shell dial is still bright and attractive, previously well-restored in vintage times. And its manually wound Jaeger-LeCoultre alarm movement is clean.
One of our watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new crocodile strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
Note: A published example of a similar watch can be found in Zaf Basha's book, Jaeger-LeCoultre: A Guide for the Collector, pg. 108
