Today's offering showcases this uncommon and original Rolex Oyster Perpetual model #6084 encased in stainless steel. Built only in the early 1950's, these watches are fine and desirable.
This particular very rare "red letter" example has the word "Officially" in its chronometer designation done in original red printing.
The 6084 was also one of the relatively few Rolex models to feature the short-lived Super Oyster crown which was produced for only three years. The “Super-Oyster” winding crown was an attempt by Rolex to create a waterproof winding crown which did not need to be screwed down. While the system itself worked, in time the rubber seal perished and therefore this crown type was phased out after only a few years of production.
Housed in one of Rolex's water-tight Oyster cases, the wristwatch originally offered its owner complete protection against water, dust, and perspiration. Inside the rugged case Rolex placed their legendary Cal. 620 so-called "Bubbleback" self-winding movement, keeping the watch powered by only movements of the wrist.
The 6084 is one of the more uncommon mid-century Oysters. Adding to the rarity of our Certified Pre-Owned one, is its uncommon Super Oyster crown.
Further adding to its rarity is its uncommon inset marker dial - rather than being applied above the dial markers are inset into the dial, giving the appearance of almost being carved into it. They have a rose gold looking tone, and because they're inset they stand out and change the colour tone as the watch moves and light hits it at different angles.
While this would be a great watch with just the above two distinctive, even more differentiating is its rare original "red letter" dial. This special Rolex checks a lot of boxes.
We purchased an impressive collection of sixteen special Pateks and Rolexes including this one from a doctor who was a collector's collector - a gentleman with tremendous knowledge, discerning taste, and a disciplined eye for detail.
We were fortunate to acquire it in such beautiful all-original condition. It is fully original down to the dial, hands, and winding crown. The silver dial is better than near mint and slightly warmed because of the luminous, giving it a pleasing vintage look.
Its case is also better than near mint and shows only slight signs of being polished - all four of the lugs are nice and full.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new crocodile strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment. Also included is a two-tone Nato strap for times when you want to make a bolder statement.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.
A very cool red letter Rolex for a fraction of the price of a Red Sub.
