One of the desirable non-sport vintage Rolex watches right now is the Oysterdate Precision. It's a watch that is perfectly at home being worn everyday or only for special occasions. Produced from the early-1950's into the 1980's, it was a strong commercial success for Rolex, winning a large following.
Part of it current appeal is that with the ever-increasing prices of vintage Rolexes, they are among the more affordable options yet still have a date.
Today's offering showcases this uncommon Certified Pre-Owned ref. 6094 mens Rolex Oysterdate.
The 6094 served as one of the early predecessors to the more commonly seen 6694. A stylish watch, it features a more mid-century look than some of the subsequent Oysterdates. And its gold dial accents give it a more dressed-up style than all steel models and make it work well with a wider range of both casual and business attire.
This 6094 has three distinctive features not found on most Rolexes. It is one of the relatively few Rolex models to feature the short-lived Super Oyster crown which was produced for only three years.
It also features an uncommon dial with inset markers. Rather than being applied above the dial, its markers are inset into it, giving the appearance of almost being carved into the dial. They are yellow gold with a toned patina - because they're inset they stand out and change the color tone as the watch moves and light hits it at different angles.
And it features its original red date wheel, associated with desirable Rolexes from the era.
Housed in one of Rolex's water-tight Oyster cases, the wristwatch originally offered its owner complete protection against water, dust, and perspiration. Inside the rugged case Rolex placed one of the last examples of their caliber 740 Super Balance movements, the handwound model that was the base mechanism for their Bubbleback automatics.
Its case presents as just short of mint with only light signs of previous polishing. The case back has been previously replaced by a perfectly fitting genuine Rolex caseback from the same period from a slightly different reference number. Its dial, which has a 1/5 second scale for precision timing for racing, aviation, and technical uses, was restored in vintage times. Please inquire if you would like a fresh expertly done restoration.
Our Master Watchmaker has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with genuine Rolex replacements, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and timing testing and regulation (a $695 value).
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new crocodile strap and aftermarket Rolex style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
