In the 1930's through the 50's, in the midst of their high output of utilitarian sports watches, Rolex also made much more elegant dress watches. These fine wristwatches often combine a superior hand-wound mechanism with beautiful aesthetics.
The elegant and timeless dress Rolex showcased in today's offering is a classic example of this phenomenon.
It is full size for the era and for the style, measuring 35mm in diameter without the crown - in between the sizes of a Rolex Date and a Datejust.
It is fully Rolex down to the winding crown and presents beautifully on the wrist.
Our example has a less common sweep seconds function and technical dial with 1/5 markings that served the needs of men in technical, sporting, and racing fields. We absolutely love this combination on the watch - it pleasingly blends a dress style with high performance and the dauphine hands and faceted markers match the style perfectly. In our opinion the balance of this watch is much better than most.
Powering the watch is its high-grade original early style handwound movement with Super Balance that pre-dates the 1200 series, giving it a true early vintage feel.
Its case back has an area of natural aging/pitting around the periphery that isn't visible while its being worn and still fully retains its coronet and its serial number is still lightly visible. On the wrist its case presents as better than near mint. With the exception of the back, the rest of the case appears likely to never have been polished and if ever only very lightly.
Its dial is bright and clean, previously well-restored.
One of our watchmakers has just fully disassembled the very fine Precision movement down to its last screw and freshly cleaned and oiled it. It is keeping extremely accurate time.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
Don't miss the opportunity to own the perfect complement to your sporty Datejust, Sub, GMT, or Daytona.
