We are proud to offer today this very fine and fabulously styled mid-century era ladies Patek Philippe.
Among Patek Philippe's ladies watches of the 1950s, some of the most appealing are those that combine elegance with genuine substance. This example does exactly that.
Its beautifully sculpted 18K gold case is larger than many comparable ladies Pateks of the era, and the distinctive architecture of its lugs gives it a surprising sense of heft in the hand. Refined and feminine yet reassuringly solid, it has a presence that immediately sets it apart from many vintage ladies dress watches and possesses a substance that is immediately noticeable the moment it is picked up.
At some point in its life a jeweler tastefully enhanced the upper and lower lug sections with diamonds set in white gold. The work complements the sculptural form of the case beautifully and adds significant sparkle without overwhelming the watch's underlying character. It creates an elegant bridge between fine watchmaking and fine jewelry while still allowing the quality of the original Patek design to remain the star.
With our photos we tried to quite capture the subtleties of the sides of the distinctive case.
Powering the watch is its illustrious handwound Patek movement with eight adjustments, unquestionably among the finest hand-winding ladies movements ever built.
Patek designed the extremely high-grade movement to maintain very accurate timekeeping even across a wide range of temperatures, five positions, and even amounts of power left (isochronism), something only the very high grade mens movements could do.
Except for some made by Patek Philippe and a few of the highest level ladies movements from a couple other top echelon manufacturers, it was virtually unheard of quality for a women's movement, It is one of the very few women's watches that is truly on par with the top-tier of men's watches.
It has all of its original parts down to its hands and winding crown. It presents beautifully on the wrist.
With the exception of the areas of the lugs that hold the band, which show a bit of evidence of the gold work done on the lugs to add the diamond lug extensions, its case presents in excellent condition.
Its silver dial is original and untouched, in just short of mint condition showing only light aging under close scrutiny. And its movement is very clean.
One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, adjusting the set lever and setting parts, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $1295 value).
We have also timed it on a machine that simulates it being worn on the wrist. It is keeping very accurate time.
For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new black cord strap designed to replicate the style of the original making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function and a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
