During the high production output of its round watches in the 1940's and 50's, Omega built a relatively small number of fine rectangular-movement based timepieces. A handful of these models made for the U.S. market had exquisitely shaped form cases with more dramatic designs, as is the case with this vintage gem.
Built in the era of the '57 Chevy and the '59 Cadillac fin - in fact, made just one year before the famous Chevy, the avante garde watch showcased in today's offering embodies distinctive design from the period. Imaginative yet elegant enough to be worn on the wrists of discriminating men and collectors, it features semi-Bugs Bunny lugs and a segmented case and a dial with very vintage styled markers.
The movement is the company caliber 302 (formerly R 17,8) rectangular mechism that was a bit ahead of its time with its 21,600 BPH fast beat timing system. As with nearly all Omega 300 series mens watches from the era, by today's standards it appears midsize or unisex.
It was gifted by General Motors Co. (GMC) for 25 years of service.
Its dramatic, 14K gold case is in excellent condition. It shows light signs of previous polishing. Otherwise it presents as just short of mint.
Its silver dial is bright and beautiful, professionally restored by one of the leading dial experts in North America. Its high-grade, Omega movement is clean and keeping time.
One of our watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled. It is keeping accurate time. For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new genuine Teju lizard strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.
If you don't need a large watch, this beautiful dress Omega will serve as the perfect complement to your sporty Seamaster or Speedmaster model.
