1956 Rolex Oysterdate Vintage Mens Handwound Watch with Roulette Date - Stainless Steel & 18K Gold

Rolex

Item No. 7463

One of the desirable non-sport vintage Rolex watches right now is the Oysterdate Precision. It's a watch that is perfectly at home being worn everyday or only for special occasions. Produced from the early-1950's into the 1980's, it was a strong commercial success for Rolex, winning a large following.

Part of its current appeal is that with the ever-increasing prices of vintage Rolexes, they are among the more affordable options yet still have a date.

Today's offering proudly showcases this uncommon ref. 6494 mens Rolex Oysterdate in gorgeous restored condition - on the wrist it presents virtually like a new Rolex.

The 6494 served as one of the immediate predecessor to the more commonly seen 6694. A stylish watch, it features a more mid-century look than some of the subsequent Oysterdates. And its gold accents give it a more dressed-up style than all steel models.

This watch is one of the relatively few to feature the short-lived Super Oyster crown which was produced for only approximately three years. The “Super-Oyster” winding crown was an attempt by Rolex to create a waterproof winding crown which did not need to be screwed down. While the system itself worked, in time the rubber seal perished and therefore this crown type was phased out after only a few years of production.

Housed in one of Rolex's water-tight Oyster cases, the wristwatch originally offered its owner complete protection against water, dust, and perspiration. Inside the rugged case Rolex placed their Cal. 1210 handwound movement with date.

The 6494 is one of the more uncommon mid-century Oysters. Adding to the rarity of our Certified Pre-Owned one with Super Oyster crown, is its so called "roulette" date wheel with alternating red and black numbers.

This special Rolex really checks the boxes.

It has just finished a true expertly done restoration. Its dial has been meticulously restored - its printing could pass as Rolex factory done to the naked eye. Its case presents just short of mint with lugs that have not been over polished. On the wrist it presents beautifully.

A Master Watchmaker has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components, reassembling and lubricating the movement, replacing all of the waterproofing seals, and timing testing and regulation (a $445 value).

For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function and a Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
