1959 IWC Vintage Mens Watch, Cal. 853 Automatic - Stainless Steel

IWC

Item No. 5662

The very fine and meticulously restored automatic IWC featured as the Watch of the Week is is powered by the Albert Pellaton designed Caliber 853 movement. This mechanism's automatic winding system is a technical masterpiece, earning it high praise - Gisbert Brunner and Christian Pfeiffer-Belli in their work, Wristwatches Armbanduhren Montres-bracelets, proclaimed it "one of the best automatic movements ever built in Switzerland."

IWC built the movement of this very fine wristwatch in 1959 at the same they were building their famous Ingenieur line. These dress watches were more elegant than the pragmatic Ingenieur but shared the high-performance timekeeping qualities in normal wearing conditions. And compared to an Ingenieur, because they do not have a second inner back, the cases are thinner and lighter on the wrist.

The watch is in beautiful restored condition and presents as just short of mint on the wrist.

The dial is a fine previous refinishing. The full size case presents beautifully with one small spot on the bezel and a couple remnants of marks on the case back.

Our watchmaker has just freshly fully overhauled the movement, and it is running very true. The winding is smooth as silk.

The parts of the watch are fully original down to the dial, hands, and winding crown. For the finishing touch we have equipped the watch with a brand new leather strap.

Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.

An almost six and decade old IWC that looks nearly like new on the wrist!
