1959 Patek Philippe Vintage Mens Calatrava Watch, Ref. 2501 - 18K Gold

Patek Philippe

Item No. 9297

Today's offering showcases this classic and handsome ref. 2501 Patek Philippe mens dress watch with beautiful stepped bezel.

Its bezel, recessed lugs, and short lugs give it a style suggestive of a "disco volante" or flying saucer Patek. Featuring a timeless silver face, it showcases a sophisticated and elegant vintage style.

It also has one of our favorite timeless Patek dial designs with silvered finish, baton markers, small seconds, and indented dot outer track. While not a large watch it is nicely larger than many dress Pateks from the era and has a 34mm diameter.

Equipped with an illustrious Patek Philippe 10 ligne movement, unquestionably among the finest hand-winding movements ever built, it possesses all the necessary capabilities to earn it its place as one the finest timepieces in the world. It is stamped in two places with the prestigious Poinçon de Genève,

Extremely high grade, it has eight adjustments - five for chronometer positions and three for heat, cold, and even isochronism. Isochronism is the amount of wind left in the movement. Most watches slow down slightly as their power reserve moves toward empty. That is not the case with this watch - it is very high-grade.

This example was retailed by Hausmann and has a desirable double-signed dial. Hausmann & Co., established in 1794 and an esteemed Patek dealer since 1897, has long been one of Rome's premier retailers. The Hausmann name has adorned many important Pateks including one formerly owned by Andy Warhol. Recently Patek even made a limited edition "Hausmann" Calatrava for the company.

Its elegant Patek Philippe case is in excellent condition with moderate signs of previous polishing. It retains a very crisp hallmark on the top left lug. Its dial is original and untouched. Please inquire if you would like it restored.

One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $895 value).

It is running very strongly and keeping very accurate time in our testing position, nearly on par with a new watch. For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new crocodile strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Like always, included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.

Please inquire if you would like us to obtain an Extract from the Patek Philippe archives for you. Patek charges 525CHF to provide one.
