Today's offering showcases this very fine automatic IWC featured powered by the Albert Pellaton designed Caliber 853 movement. This mechanism's automatic winding system is a technical masterpiece, earning it high praise - Gisbert Brunner and Christian Pfeiffer-Belli in their work, Wristwatches Armbanduhren Montres-bracelets, proclaimed it "one of the best automatic movements ever built in Switzerland."
The famous watchmaker Donald de Carle, in his book Complicated Watches and their Repair, remarked that IWC's special automatic winding mechanism was "a simple and ingenious system, well constructed and beautifully finished."
IWC built this watch in 1960 at the same they were building their famous Ingenieur line. It is full size with a 35mm diameter, one millimetre smaller than a mens Datejust.
It just has finished a true expertly done restoration. It is fully IWC down to all hands and signed winding crown and presents in gorgeous condition.
Its dial has been meticulously refinished - its gilt printing could pass as IWC factory done.
Its full size case presents as mint. Aas part of the restoration the movement has been freshly expertly overhauled by a Master Watchmaker and winds silky smooth. Incredibly after 59 years, it continues to keep time nearly on par with a brand new IWC, maintaining chronometer grade accuracy in four of the five testing positions.
Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.
A five and a half decade old IWC that looks like new on the wrist!
