1960 Longines Conquest Deluxe Vintage Mens Full Size Watch - 18K Gold & Enamel

Longines

Item No. 10401SH

Introduced in 1954, the Longines Conquest was the brand’s first officially trademarked collection and represented its flagship automatic offering of the era. It was conceived to combine refined dress watch elegance with enhanced durability, including a screw-back waterproof case and the distinctive enamel medallion set into the caseback.

The Conquest Calendar Deluxe elevated the concept further by pairing Longines’ in-house automatic movement with a solid gold case and dial, creating a watch that was equally at home under a cuff or as a high-end daily companion. Reference 9005 is a classic expression of this vision - clean, confident, and unmistakably mid-century Swiss luxury.

Today's offering showcases this all-original Conquest Calendar Deluxe.

On the wrist, this watch has presence far beyond its dimensions. The warm tone of the heavy 18K gold case paired with the matching original 18K gold dial, 18K hands, and 18K crown, creates a depth and richness that only precious metal can deliver. The applied gold indices catch the light differently at every angle, giving the dial a subtle dimensionality that feels far more luxurious than a simple flat surface.

What makes this piece especially compelling is the combination of refinement and engineering. It's not merely a dress watch - it was designed as a waterproof automatic at a time when that claim truly meant something. The screw-back case and cloisonné enamel medallion were technical statements as much as aesthetic ones. It represents a moment when Longines was asserting itself at the very top tier of Swiss watchmaking, producing in-house movements, solid gold cases, and cohesive design language all under one roof.

Powering the watch is its original Longines automatic caliber 19ASD, movement. It is clean, correct, and properly housed within its original case. As one would expect for the movement Longines chose to power this watch, the 19ASD is one of the company's respected mid-century automatics - smooth winding, mechanically elegant, and emblematic of the Golden Era of the company when Longines movements were considered among the very fine in Switzerland.

It has all of its original parts and is a pleasing example. Its untouched original dial is just short of mint even under magnification.

Its case is in excellent condition with light wear and fairly light signs of previous polishing. It has one ding on the lower left side and light wear underneath the lugs from a previously installed metal bracelet. On the wrist, its case presents beautifully.

Unlike many Conquests, this one nearly flawlessly retains its original cloisonné enamel.

One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consisted of fully disassembling the movement; carefully inspecting each part; adjusting the set level so it engaged deeper with the detent, installing correct new calendar module screws, and adjusting the upper pivot of the staff; reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $995 value).

We have also timed it on a machine that simulates it being worn on the wrist. It is keeping very accurate time.

For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new Teju lizard strap and aftermarket Longines style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function and full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.

Note: In 2014, Longines celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Conquest with a trio of heritage releases that are very reminiscent of our vintage watch.
