1960's Girard Perregaux Vintage HF High Frequency 18K Gold Plated Chronometer Watch - New Old Stock with Sticker

Girard Perregaux

Item No. 9464SH

Today's offering showcases this exceptional new-old-stock example of one of Girard Perregaux sought after vintage models - their high frequency chronometer.

This officially certified chronometer employed a long list of advanced technical features. It was so accurate, in fact, that 70% of the chronometer certificates issued in 1967 by the Neuchâtel Observatory were for these special high-frequency chronometers.

Here are some of the watch's features:

  • "High Frequency" 36,000 beats per hour balance system, twice the speed of many traditional wristwatches (most vintage watches beat 18,000 times per hour) and made to accommodate changes in temperature. For decades 36,000 beats per hour was as fast as any production watch ticked.
  • Without going too much into the physics of the balance in the movements of high beat watches, all other factors being equal, the physics of a high-beat movement are slightly more favorable for consistent timekeeping than the physics of a normal beat movement.
  • Officially certified as a chronometer by the C.O.S.C
  • Very effective Gyromatic system requires smaller wrist movement to keep the watch fully powered. This also helps the watch spend more time running at its peak power level which can give more accurate timekeeping
  • Jeweled with 39 rubies to reduce friction between the moving parts
  • Rugged and elegant waterproof style case

In certain respects, these watches and Longines high beat chronometer were the best of the best when it came to accuracy in a widely-produced watch at the time - they were both certified chronometer and they had a beat frequency much higher than that of nearly all watches including all Rolexes from the era.

Our HF Chronometer is true new-old-stock still protected by its original sticker on the back - a very rare time capsule piece!

The watch shows hardly any handling wear and the tiniest bit of wear from previously being opened by the auction house who sold it.

It has its original bands and buckle and the original paper sticker on the watch appears unworn.

We have tested and timed the watch, and it is running extremely strong and true, keeping time on par with a brand new chronometer. Please inquire if you would like one of our Master Watchmakers to perform the watch's first servicing. Photos of the inside available upon request.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
