Step into the annals of military history with the legendary Heuer Bundeswehr Flyback Chronograph Model 1550SG. It's not really merely a watch—it's a tangible connection to the gallant men and women who relied on its precision and durability in the face of adversity. It's steeped in military heritage and its reputation is well-earned.
We really love these watches. They're big, historically significant, and extremely cool. And this one is in beautiful all-original condition.
Here are a few of its key features:
Historical Significance: The "Bund", which is hold collectors refer to it, holds a special place in military history most notably for its use by the German Air Force (Luftwaffe). Originally commissioned by the Germans in 1967–1968 it was shortly thereafter adopted by the Norwegian and Yugoslavian Air Force. It served as a vital tool for pilots and navigators, embodying reliability and precision under the most demanding conditions.
Cool Military Heritage: The Model 1550SG embodies the ruggedness and resilience of military timepieces. Its distinctive design, characterized by its flyback chronograph function, bold, legible dial, and rugged case, reflects the no-nonsense practicality of military equipment.
Needed Functionality: The “retour en vol” or "flyback" chronograph feature allows for seamless timing of consecutive events with precision—a critical capability for military operations where split-second decisions can make all the difference.
Notable Design: With its striking black dial, luminous markers, and robust stainless steel case, the Bund exudes an unmistakable aura of authority and confidence, making it a standout piece in any collection.
Collector's Gem: As a sought-after piece among horological enthusiasts and military memorabilia collectors alike, the Bundeswehr is not just a watch—it's a cherished artefact that embodies the spirit of adventure and precision.
Its large Heuer case measures 43mm in diameter really filling out the wrist. Powering it is its original Valjoux 230 movement.
We were fortunate to acquire it with all of its original parts and in very pleasing condition.
Its never polished case shows very little wear. Just a little loss of the blackening on the edge around the bezel as to expected from handling the bezel to turn it, and a few light marks near the screws on the back. They could be polished off, but why would you...it's a practical tool that is very honest and in far better condition than most examples.
Its untouched original dial is mint with light toning of the luminous. Its original stem and crown are designed to protrude from the case to make it easier to wind, even with gloves on.
One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, installing a new mainspring, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (an $895 value).
It is running exceptionally strong and true, keeping time better than most brand new Heuer watches in our testing recording position.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new strap carefully crafted to faithfully replicate the original Bund one making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
