Today's offering showcases this classicly styled mens high-beat Ulysse Nardin. A full sized watch, it has an elegant and shapely case similar to a Rolex Datejust and lightly textured silver dial.
Measuring 36mm in diameter, it is the same size as a Rolex Datejust. And like a Rolex, it is powered by an automatic movement that has been officially certified as chronometer, the highest distinction given to a watch movement. It also has a quick-setting date, something not found on Datejusts until the 1980's.
But is has a very unique and pleasing engine. Besides being a certified chronometer, it also features a high frequency 36,000 beats per hour balance system, twice the speed of many traditional watches and the fastest beat rate of the era, insuring exceptional accuracy.
Only a few specialist models of watches from a handful of brands beat at 36,000 per hour. As both a high frequency watch and a officially certified chronometer, this watch would have been among the very best when it came to accuracy in a widely-produced watch at the time.
It presents in gorgeous condition. It case presents as better than near mint with a few very small remnants of wear to the back and fairly light signs of previous polishing. Its dial, which appears to be original, presents as mint. Its hands have a thin black stripe mirroring the markers. See the furthest cropped out photo to view how the hands look in person.
One of our Master Watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it. It is running exceptionally strong and true, keeping time better than many brand new UN or Rolex watches in our testing position.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new Italian calfskin strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
We also now have brand new vintage style distressed leather straps that would look fabulous on the watch and give it a more casual look if you would like. Please inquire if you're interested.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
An over four decade old classic Ulysse Nardin chronometer that presents almost like new on the wrist!
Ulysse Nardin:
Ulysse Nardin is best known by many collectors for creating chronometers, extremely accurate time keeping instruments. Their marine chronometer used by ship's captains to plot and follow the correct course while at sea. By employing sextants and chronometers, a captain could track the changes in his course over time and determine the exact location of his ship, and Nardin's marine chronometers were among the most reliable and sought after.
