Today's offering showcases this very fine automatic IWC featured powered by the Albert Pellaton designed Caliber 853 movement. This mechanism's automatic winding system is a technical masterpiece, earning it high praise - Gisbert Brunner and Christian Pfeiffer-Belli in their work, Wristwatches Armbanduhren Montres-bracelets, proclaimed it "one of the best automatic movements ever built in Switzerland."
The famous watchmaker Donald de Carle, in his book Complicated Watches and their Repair, remarked that IWC's special automatic winding mechanism was "a simple and ingenious system, well constructed and beautifully finished."
IWC built this watch in 1963 at the same they were building their famous Ingenieur line. It is full size with a 35mm diameter, one millimeter smaller than a mens Datejust.
It is all-original down to dial, hands, and signed IWC winding crown and what we believe it is original contract case. The dial is untouched and mint. The case presents beautifully.
It is an example made for the Japanese market and has what we have been told is its original Japanese contract case. It is has just been freshly cleaned and oiled and is running very true.
Accompanying it is its rare original IWC box.
Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
