Today's offering showcases this classic Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust ref. 1601 encased in stainless steel and 18K white gold.
Featuring clean lines and a sharp look, this watch embodies Rolex's timeless class. To us, when it comes to elegance and refinement, the Rolex "pie-pan" dial models from the late 50's through the mid-'70's were front-runners of the period.
And this one has fabulous markers.
As precise as it is classic, the watch is powered by a mechanism that powered many early models of the Submariner, Explorer, and GMT models. A superior mechanism, it offers a level of engineering and craftsmanship that is exceptional.
The watch is all-original condition down to the hands and has its likely original or period correct Rolex Jubilee bracelet. It is in excellent condition.
The centerpiece is its untouched original "pie-pan" dial. Which is in gorgeous mint condition. The luminous is near perfect under magnification.
Its case is in excellent condition with only very light wear to the underside. On the wrist it presents beautifully. The bezel retains crisp engine turning.
Its correct Rolex Jubilee "crimped link" bracelet presents in excellent condition with very little stretch, something seldom seen on Rolex bracelets that are more than half a century old.
One of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealership and was given training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with genuine Rolex replacements, installing a correct new mainspring, reassembling and lubricating the movement, replacing all of the waterproofing seals with new gaskets, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $995 value).
It is running very strong and true, keeping time essentially on par with a new Rolex in our testing recording position.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
Note: A published example of this model can be found in Osvaldo Patrizzi's work Rolex, Collecting Wristwatches, 2001 Edition, Guido Mondani editor, Vol. 2, pg. 37.
