1968 Omega De Ville Mens Automatic Retro "TV" Style Caliber 565 Watch - Stainless Steel

Omega

Item No. 10575

Today's offering showcases this gorgeously restored example of one of Omega's retro vintage watches.

Living up to its name as one of the sophisticated "DeVille" models, it features a retro "TV style" case, striking Tiffany & Co. robin's egg blue color dial, and very fine automatic Omega movement.

There was a period in the late 1960s and early 1970s when Omega seemed particularly willing to experiment. The company was producing some of the finest automatic movements in Switzerland, yet it was also embracing the bold new shapes and styling that would define the coming decade.

This ref. 162.025 De Ville is a product of that moment, combining Omega's proven mechanical excellence with a case design that still looks refreshingly modern today. It is a very uncommon reference, the first we've owned, despite having sold nearly a thousand vintage Omegas.

What immediately sets this watch apart is its distinctive cushion-shaped case. Rather than following the traditional round dress watch formula, Omega gave this De Ville a broad, gently curved square profile that creates a stronger visual presence on the wrist while remaining elegant and refined. In many way, more than fifty years later, it still feels contemporary.

Although non-round watches are most often fitted with handwound movements, this model houses an automatic. And not just any movement. Omega's used their top-tier caliber 565 movement, one of the last superior 500's series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs, and the top offering of the 500 series. It has 24 jewels and a quick-setting date. Arguably the finest mass-produced automatic movement from era, despite the appreciation it receives it remains not yet fully appreciated.

What immediately catches your eye is its striking dial. Custom refinished in a Tiffany & Co. robins egg blue tone, it shifts from soft aqua to brilliant turquoise as light moves across the dial, creating an effect that is both playful and sophisticated. Its applied baton markers, slender hands, and simple date aperture helps the colorto stay the center of attention while still maintaining the restraint expected from a vintage Omega.

It has all of its original parts down to even its original signed Omega crystal.

It has just finished a true expertly done restoration and presents in gorgeous condition - a 9.6 out of 10.

Its case presents as mint. Its original Omega dial has been meticulously custom refinished in Tiffany & Co. robin's egg blue color - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.

As part of the restoration, its movement has been freshly fully serviced by a Master Watchmaker.

It is running extraordinarily strong and true, keeping time more accurately in our testing recording position than most Omegas coming out of the factory today.

For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new calfskin leather strap with an aftermarket Omega style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Please inquire if you would like a colored strap to swap or add as an extra to give you the option of changing the look whenever you like.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
