Today's offering showcases this classic and beautifully restored c. 1968 Omega Seamaster Cosmic with Royal Amethyst color dial. The color is much deeper and richer than our photos suggest.
Vintage Omega watches have long been appreciated for their timeless proportions, excellent movements, and restrained design. While this Seamaster Cosmic shares all of those qualities, what sets it apart is its beautifully refinished dial. Executed in a rich Royal Amethyst tone with sunburst finish, it gives the watch a fresh, contemporary personality while remaining faithful to the clean simplicity that has always made these models so appealing.
The dial's finely brushed finish catches the light beautifully, shifting from between deep violet, plum, and brighter jewel-toned purple as the watch moves on the wrist. Its distinctive wide applied baton markers feature finely textured centres that create wonderful depth and contrast against the radiant dial. The combination gives the watch a strong visual identity without feeling overdone.
The smooth, sculpted Cosmic case is an excellent companion to the dial. Its flowing lines and absence of sharp edges give the watch a refined, almost modern silhouette that pairs especially well with the contemporary color. The overall design feels cohesive, as though the watch could have been imagined this way from the beginning.
It measures slightly over 35mm in diameter without the crown, in between the sizes of a Rolex Date and a Datejust.
Powering the watch is Omega's top-tier caliber 565 movement, the last superior 500's series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs. With 24 jewels and a quick-setting date, it was the top tier offering of the famous 500 series and is one of the finest mass-produced automatic movements from the era.
It has all of its original parts and has just finished a true expertly done restoration. It presents in gorgeous condition - it presents as a 9.7 or 9.8 out of 10.
Its monococque - or one-piece - case, which achieved high water resistance ratings by not having a separate case back, presents as mint. Usually the stamping on the back shows lightening from previous polishing - on this watch it is still very strong. And the sunburst finish on the bezel and lug tops is stunning.
Its original Omega dial has been meticulously custom refinished in Royal Amethyst - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.
As part of the restoration, the movement has been freshly overhauled by a Master Watchmakers. It is running extremly strong and true, keeping time nearly on par with a new Omega Seamaster.
For the finishing touch, a new aftermarket calfskin leather strap with aftermarket Omega style buckle has been installed making it ready for immediate enjoyment. Please inquire if you would like to purchase a genuine Omega buckle for it - we have one in stock.
Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to the watch's performance.
