Today's offering showcases this handsome and uncommon Omega Seamaster Chronometer, reference 168.034. Produced during one of Omega's greatest eras of mechanical watchmaking, it represents a fascinating chapter in the evolution of the Seamaster line.
It circa dates to 1969 where it might have laid next to the Speedmaster Professional that would be headed to the Moon.
It combines the rugged everyday practicality that made the Seamaster famous with one of Omega's officially certified chronometer movements, creating a watch that occupies a unique position between the standard Seamaster models and the flagship Constellation.
Seamaster Chronometer models made after 1952 are among Omega's seldom-seen vintage watches. After Omega divided the line into two distinct offerings, the "plain" Seamaster as its everyday sport watch and the Constellation as its dedicated luxury chronometer, only a relatively small number of Seamaster Chronometers continued to be produced.
They offered buyers the best of both worlds: the understated versatility and ruggedness of the Seamaster paired with the precision and prestige of an officially certified chronometer movement. Today these models remain desirable and uncommon among vintage Omega collectors.
Powering this example is Omega's celebrated caliber 751, one of the finest vintage automatic chronometer movements the company produced.
The 700 series has a direct lineage with the celebrated 500 series, and is arguably as good, and collectors are beginning to recognize it accordingly. The series ended the 500/700 family of movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs. It introduced a convenient quick-set day and date mechanism while maintaining the exceptional reliability, smooth winding characteristics, and chronometer-grade precision for which the series is known.
The 751 represents the top-tier of Omega's traditional vintage in-house chronometer automatics before the company transitioned into a new generation of movement design during the 1970s.
Its substantial stainless steel C-case has a robust retro style, which is complemented well by its dial with "wide boy" vintage styled markers.
Measuring a full-size 36.5mm in diameter, it has a lot wrist presence and wear larger than a Rolex Datejust.
It is original parts down to all of the hands, crown, and even signed Omega crystal.
It is very honest - the case has never been polished. It is near mint with fairly light wear throughout. It retains all of its original sunburst finish on both its bezel and the outer edge of its case back.
Its lightly textured silver dial is original and untouched, in mint condition.
One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation. We have also timed it on a machine that simulates it being worn on the wrist. It is keeping very accurate time.
For the finishing touch, it comes with a leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment. If you would like a larger width strap than the one on the watch when it was photographed, please inquire - we have some in stock.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
A sport and dress watch with truly impressive capabilities.
