1970 Omega Constellation Vintage Mens Large Automatic Chronometer Watch, Day Date - Stainless Steel & 18K White Gold

Item No. 8190

Omega's flagship line for decades, the Constellation represents style, luxury, attention to detail, robust function, and most all, superior precision. Elegant and stately, it is suitable for both casual and professional dress.

Today's auction showcases this retro styled classic Constellation chronometer with beautiful Tiffany blue dial.

While most of the examples of this style came in all steel cases, this less common example has its original 18K white gold bezel.

Featuring an officially certified automatic chronometer movement with quick-set date and a robust case, this late 60's - early 70's era Omega demonstrates why the Constellation was the company's flagship line.

Powering the watch is Omega's very fine thin automatic caliber 751 movement, the top-tier offering in the 700 line. It has 24 jewels and is adjusted to five positions.

The 700 series has a direct lineage to the celebrated 500 series, and is arguably as good, and collectors are beginning to recognize it accordingly. The 500 and 700 series were one of the finest mass-produced automatic movements from the era.

Pleasingly full size for the era, it measures 36.3mm, slightly larger than a Rolex Datejust.

Here are some of its features:

  • 18K white gold bezel
  • High grade movement officially certified as a chronometer by the C.O.S.C. and adjusted to five positions and to run accurately across a wide range of temperatures
  • Ultra-thin design automatic movement measuring only 4.25mm thick
  • Thinner rotor to reduce stress on key winding parts
  • Hacking feature for accurate time-setting
  • Striking Tiffany robin's egg blue dial with wide steel markers topped with black for easy reading
  • Distinctive large retro styled case

It has fully original parts and has just finished a true expertly done restoration. It presents in gorgeous condition - about a 9.7 out of 10. Our photos couldn't do it justice!

The case presents as just short of perfect mint. The original Omega dial has been meticulously custom refinished - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.

As part of the restoration a Master Watchmaker has freshly overhauled it. It is running very strong and true, keeping time nearly on par with a new Omega chronometer in our testing position. Photos of the inside available upon request.

For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new calfskin leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

A five decade old Omega that looks like new on the wrist!
