1970 Omega Geneve Vintage Mens Rare Large 37mm Cal. 565 Automatic Watch with Date - Stainless Steel

Omega

Item No. 5169

Today's offering showcases this very uncommon and superior example of one of Omega's vintage gent's Geneve watches. It is our understanding that it was sold in small quantities only in the Japanese market. We acquired the watch out of Asia. When we scoured the 'net we could only find two others (though we're not suggesting that only three pieces exist).

Powering it is its caliber 565 movement from the company's very fine and famous caliber 500 series. The 565 is one of the higher-jeweled (24 jewels) versions and also has quick-setting date and micrometer regulator.

It was used in Seamasters and is one of the finer Omega automatic movements from the era right before the company switched to off the shelf movements.

The watch has a full size classic waterproof style steel case and striking green gradient dial.

It is large for the era, measuring 37mm in diameter - larger than a Rolex Datejust.

It is fully Omega down to the hands and crown. It presents in gorgeous true expertly restored condition - about a 9.6 out of 10. The dial, which is a custom green gradient, is a perfect refinishing whose printing could pass as Omega factory done.

As part of the restoration, the movement has been freshly serviced, is very clean, and is keeping very accurate time. Photos of the inside available upon request.

Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

Omega Geneve:
Worn on the wrists of celebrities Michael Schumacher, Pierce Brosnan, Michael Phelps, and Ernie Els Omega timepieces rank with Rolex and other of the world's fine Swiss firms.

Beginning in 1953 Omega placed the name Geneve on the dials of some of the members of the 30mm collection which at the time were produced in the company's workshops in Geneve (to put Geneve on a dial of a watch certain components and processes must take place in Geneve) and later expanded the line of watches featuring the name. According to Omega the name referred to to the Genevan Observatory where the early 30mm calibers set a number of records.
