1970 Rolex Submariner Vintage Mens "Non-Serif" Ref. 5513 Matte Dial Watch - Stainless Steel

Rolex

Item No. 9614SH

Today's offering showcases this very cool matte dial 5513 "Non-Serif" Submariner.

For those not familiar, the uncommon "Non-Serif" dial Submariner immediately followed the "meters first" Subs. Introduced first around late 1969 to early 1970, they transitioned Rolex to the "feet first" wording as the very first "feet first" version of the Sub.

Desirable and short-lived, Rolex only made Non-Serif Subs from approximately the 2.0 million range until approximately the 2.5 million range before moving on to "Serif Subs."

These watches are so named because of the fact that the rectangular luminous plots at 3, 6, and 9, do not have serifs - short lines - on them.

Our 5513 is original with a beautiful untouched dial whose luminous has toned to a very nice sepia.

Here are a few of the features that earned this watch its place among the company's highly sought after watches.

Desirable "feet first" two-line matte black dial

Rolex Oyster bracelet with VC date code

Advanced self-winding Cal. 1520 movement

Heavy Oyster case crafted from a single block stainless steel. This process originally insured that watch was impervious to water to a depth of 660 ft/ 200m.

Original locking screw down crown for enhanced water resistance.

Protruded guards to protect the crown

Easy to read Tritium dial and hands, originally legible even in darkened diving conditions

Rolex graduated bi-directional revolving black bezel for assistance with decompression times

On the wrist, its case presents in beautiful condition. It shows fairly light signs of previous polishing and remnants of wear throughout the back that are not visible when it's being worn. Its serial number has previously been restamped between the lugs. Its correct bezel insert is absolutely mint.

Its untouched original dial is mint. Its bracelet shows fairly mild to moderate signs of stretch, and is a fitting complement to the watch.

One of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealer and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, installing a new mainspring and genuine new-old-stock Rolex crystal, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $995 value).

It is running strongly and keeping very accurate time.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.

Rolex Submariner:

Rolex, known for exposing their wristwatches to extreme circumstances, took their testing to a new level on September 30, 1953, when they strapped one of their new prototype Submariner diving watches to the famous Piccard family's bathyscaph FNRS-2 for its world record setting dive to 10,336 feet. The watch survived the testing unharmed and watertight.
