Today's offering showcases this striking example of one of Omega's classic and elegant vintage gent's De Ville watches with Emerald green dial.
Living up to its name as one of the sophisticated "De Ville" models, it features a pleasing tonneau case, striking dial, and very fine automatic Omega movement.
The early 1970's produced some of really interesting watches for Omega. While the Speedmaster was headed for the Moon and the Seamaster continued its evolution as a professional tool watch, the De Ville line became Omega's canvas for exploring elegance in modern design.
This ref. 161/162.751 is an excellent example of that period, a watch that captures the forward-looking style of the era while retaining all of the mechanical quality that made Omega one of Switzerland's premier manufacturers.
What immediately draws the eye is its beautiful emerald-green dial. Custom refinished in a rich emerald green with a dramatic sunburst effect, it transforms continuously depending upon the angle of the light. In one moment the dial shifts from deep forest green to a brilliant metallic emerald, creating a dynamic appearance. Green dials have become one of the hottest trends in modern watchmaking.
Ref. 161/162.751 belongs to a generation of watches that moved away from traditional round dress watch architecture. Made during the era of the Patek Philippe Ellipse, the broad "TV shaped" tonneau-shaped case gives the watch a distinctive look.
It is full size for the style - it measures just under 35mm without the crown, about the same width as a Rolex Date model.
Powering it is Omega's automatic caliber 1012 engine found in Seamasters and other models from the era. It has 23 jewels, seven more than most Omega's from the era.
It has all of its original parts down to its Omega crystal. It has just finished a true expertly done restoration and presents in gorgeous condition - it presents as 9.7 out of 10.
Its case, with its beautiful sunburst soleil finish on both its bezel and tops of its lugs that mirrors the sunburst finish of the dial, presents as mint with only very slight signs of previous polishing. On the wrist, it presents as gorgeous mint.
Its original Omega dial has been meticulously custom refinished in emerald green - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye. Its color is even a little deeper and richer than the photos suggest.
As part of the restoration, the original caliber 1012 movement has been overhauled by a Master Watchmaker.
We have also timed it on a machine that simulates it being worn on the wrist. It is running very accurately.
For the finishing touch, it has been equipped with a new aftermarket Omega style buckle on an aftermarket calfskin leather strap that complements the dial - done in a slightly darker shade of green - making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
It would also pair very nicely with a black strap for a slightly more restrained look.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
