1973 Omega Seamaster Mens Vintage Full Size Emerald Green Watch, Automatic, Date - Stainless Steel

Omega

Item No. 10574

Today's offering showcases this striking example of one of Omega's classic and distinctive vintage gent's Geneve watches with Emerald green dial.

The early 1970's produced some of really interesting watches for Omega. While the Speedmaster was headed for the Moon and the Seamaster continued its evolution as a professional tool watch, the Genève line became Omega's canvas for exploring modern design.

This ref. 166.0168 is an excellent example of that period, a watch that captures the forward-looking style of the era while retaining all of the mechanical quality that made Omega one of Switzerland's premier manufacturers.

What immediately draws the eye is its beautiful emerald-green dial. Custom refinished in a rich emerald green with a dramatic sunburst effect, it transforms continuously depending upon the angle of the light. In one moment the dial shifts from deep forest green to a brilliant metallic emerald, creating a dynamic appearance. Green dials have become one of the hottest trends in modern watchmaking.

Ref. 166.0168 belongs to a generation of watches that moved away from traditional round dress watch architecture and toward the integrated styling that would come to define much of the decade. The broad tonneau-shaped case flows naturally into the strap.

It is large for the era, over 36mm in diameter - larger than the size of a Rolex Datejust.

Powering it is Omega's automatic caliber 1012 engine found in Seamasters and other models from the era. It has 23 jewels, seven more than most Omega's from the era.

It has all of its original parts down to its Omega signed crystal. It has just finished a true expertly done restoration and presents in gorgeous condition - it presents as 9.6 out of 10.

The case, with its large unusual faceted lugs, presents as mint with only the tiniest remnants of wear to the underside. On the wrist, it presents as gorgeous mint.

Its original Omega dial has been meticulously custom refinished in emerald green - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye. Its color is even a little deeper and richer than the photos suggest.

As part of the restoration, the original caliber 1012 movement has been overhauled by a Master Watchmaker. We have also timed it on a machine that simulates it being worn on the wrist. It is running extraordinaly strongly and keeping time nearly on par with a new Omega in our testing recording position.

For the finishing touch, it has been equipped with a new aftermarket Omega style buckle on an aftermarket calfskin leather strap that complements the dial - done in a slightly darker shade of green - making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

It would also pair very nicely with a black strap for a slightly more restrained look.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

Your watch is important to us, and we will take care of it for its lifetime. A five and a half decade old Seamaster that looks like new on the wrist!

Omega Geneve:

Omega watches can be found on the wrists of many prominent figures including Pierce Brosnan, Michael Schumacher, Michael Phelps, Ernie Els, and Prince William, and one graced the wrist of President John F. Kennedy. Omega has been the official timekeeper for 21 Olympic Games and is the official chronometer of NASA.

Beginning in 1953 Omega placed the name Geneve on the dials of some of the members of the 30mm collection which at the time were produced in the company's workshops in Geneve (to put Geneve on a dial of a watch certain components and processes must take place in Geneve) and later expanded the line of watches featuring the name. According to Omega the name referred to the Genevan Observatory where the early 30mm calibers set a number of records.
