Today's offering showcases this retro styled example of one of Omega's classic vintage Seamaster double quick-setting watches in gorgeous restored condition with royal amethyst dial.
Once overshadowed by Omega's dress watches of the 1950s and 1960s, the brand's 1970s creations have developed an enthusiastic following of their own. Their clean, integrated styling and distinctive case designs give them a personality unlike anything Omega produced before or since, while still delivering the dependable performance that made the Seamaster name so respected.
What makes this watch especially appealing is how naturally it bridges past and present. It is unmistakably a product of the 1970s, yet its classic tonneau case, removable original bracelet with an integrated style, and beautifully refinished dial give it a contemporary presence that feels just as relevant today.
It has a rich royal amethyst/imperial plum color that changes dramatically with the light. It's luxurious without being loud, and against the brushed steel case it feels very refined.
The color carries exceptional depth, shifting from vibrant jewel-toned purple to darker plum hues as the light moves across its finely brushed surface. It is a color that feels both elegant and unexpected, offering a refreshing alternative to the traditional black, blue, or silver dials found on most vintage watches.
Power it is Omega's 1020 caliber movement with day and date functions. Here are some of its features:
* Pioneering "double quick-set" day and date features - Omega created the caliber 1020 and 1022 movements with a double quick-set capability for convenient setting of the day and date. Though many connoisseurs associate the idea of the double quick-set watch with Rolex, which first offered the President model with this "new" feature in late 1990, Omega was a pioneer of the technology in large scale production watches, evidenced by this example made about a decade before.
* Full size retro case - Its diameter is approximately 36mm, essentially the same size as a Rolex Datejust.
* Elegant royal amethyst dial - In person its color is a true rich, deep color that draws you in.
* Uncommon Omega bracelet - Its bracelet has a distinctive style and is one of the seldom seen bracelets from the era.
* Faster beat (28,800 bph) balance system for greater accuracy
It has all of its original parts down to even its original Omega crystal and original Omega waterproofing seal.
It had just finished a true expertly done restoration and presents in gorgeous condition - the watch presents as a 9.7 out of 10. On the wrist it presents like new.
Its case presents as mint with perferct high-polished facets.
Its original Omega dial has been meticulously custom refinished - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.
And its very uncommon bracelet shows only mild stretch - its finish presents as mint.
As part of the restoration, a Master Watchmaker has overhauled the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $795 value).
It is running strong and true, keeping time essentially on par with a new Omega in our testing recording position.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.
