Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref. 6009ST Vintage Midsize Mens Rectangular Watch - Stainless Steel

Audemars Piguet

Item No. 10298SH

Today's offering showcases this very fine and classic Audemars Piguet mens rectangular Royal Oak in beautiful original condition. The case has never been polished, and the watch is the rare "signature at six" version.

Among the many watches that trace their lineage to Gérald Genta's 1972 Royal Oak, very few reinterpret the design language with this much confidence. Reference 6009ST keeps the family DNA intact - the sharply faceted case, integrated bracelet, textured Tapisserie dial, and unmistakable sense of architectural finishing - but expresses it through a compact rectangular form that feels at once distinctly late-1970s and unmistakably Audemars Piguet. Rather than simply shrinking the Royal Oak, it reframes it.

For those unfamiliar, Gerald Genta is perhaps the most heralded luxury watch designer of the last century. Beginning in 1970, he created some of the most high-end iconic watch designs including Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, the Patek Philippe Nautilus, certain versions of the Omega Constellation, the Bvlgari Bvlgari, and the reinvention of the IWC Ingenieur among other projects.

The way it reframes the traditional Royal Oak is what makes this watch so compelling. It offers the cachet of an early Royal Oak, the hand-finished steel surfaces and bracelet work that made the model famous, with an unconventional case shape that collectors are encountering far less often than the classic octagonal references. The 6009 is very seldom seen.

Further adding to its rarity, it is one of only a very few examples that AP made with the signature positioned at six instead of twelve.

The black Petite Tapisserie dial gives it the visual depth collectors want, while the slim quartz caliber 2502 keeps the watch elegant on the wrist and true to the period when the great Swiss houses were exploring how quartz could be executed at a genuinely high level rather than as a compromise. It exudes vintage elegance and class.

It has all of its original parts and presents in pleasing condition.

The case has never been polished. It still retains the strong geometry, edges, and facet transitions that are so important to a watch like this. It has light wear. It's worth noting that a very light sympathetic polishing, if ever desired, could make the watch present essentially like new. As it sits, it offers an honest, sharp, original presentation.

Its very rare "signature at six" dial is original and untouched, in mint condition.

Its bracelet, lightly expertly polished one time, also presents as mint with no stretch.
