Today's offering showcases this cool and uncommon vintage Seamaster De Ville mens watch.
Unlike most Seamasters from the era which were automatic, this uncommon reference was powered by one of Omega's caliber 600 series handwound movements. The thinner movement allows for a thinner case than with automatic Seamasters. We have generally found all of these examples to circa date to 1961, perhaps the only year it was made.
It measures at approximately 34.3mm in diameter without the crown, just slight ly larger than the size of a Rolex Date watch and two millimeters smaller than a Rolex Datejust.
It has a monocoque - or one piece - case which insured water resistance and slim, elegant profile. The case when new achieved high water resistance ratings by not having a separate case back.
Its dial has wonderful retro styled faceted triangular indices at the primary hours.
It is 100% Omega down to the dial, hands, and winding crown. It has just finished a true expertly done restoration and presents in gorgeous condition. The dial has been meticulously restored - its printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.
The case presents as gorgeous mint with beautifully crisp edges and corners.
A Master Watchmaker has just freshly disassembled the fine movement, which was originally adjusted to two positions, down to the last screw and cleaned and oiled it.
1960's and early 70's Seamasters are great long-term buys as parts are readily available for their well-made movements, and they're not hard to service.
For the finishing touch a new leather strap has been installed making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
The page on the Omega website representing an example of this series can be found here.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
Omega is perhaps best known by watch connoisseurs for its Seamaster line of dive watches. Introduced in 1948, they have been embraced by water sports enthusiasts and often marry a striking look with a high performance movement.
