c. 1970 Patek Philippe Vintage Mens Handwound Watch, Ref. 3459 Disco Volante Style - 18K Gold

Patek Philippe

Item No. 10606

We are proud to offer this very fine and uncommon ref. 3459 Patek Philippe mens watch with hidden lugs which has all of its original parts down to even its original special Patek strap and 18K Patek buckle.

The Ref. 3459 is one of the more distinctive vintage Patek dress watches ofpp its era. Rather than using traditional exposed lugs, it features a wonderfully elegant hidden-lug Vendôme style case. Its Vendome style lugs are hidden behind the watch so as to no disrupt the purity of its circular lines.

The strap disappears neatly behind the case, allowing the watch to present as an almost pure circle on the wrist. The result is refined and restrained, yet with just enough mid-century design flair to make it more interesting than a standard round Calatrava.

It shares a family resemblance with Patek Philippe's celebrated Disco Volante style watches, Italian for "flying saucer." The inspiration is visible in the broad circular form, the clean bezel, and the way the case seems to float without conventional lugs interrupting its geometry.

It is not a loud watch, but it has a very particular presence: formal, thin, elegant, and quietly avant-garde. Adding to its interest, the bezel has an interesting five-minute marker design that gives the otherwise pure circular case a discreet technical accent.

Powering the watch is its illustrious Patek Philippe Cal. 23-300 movement, unquestionably among the finest hand-winding movements ever built. It is adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism, and five positions, and it is stamped in two places with the prestigious Poinçon de Genève.

The movement is beautifully finished with rhodium plating, Geneva-style striping, polished screw heads, gold-filled engraving, and Patek's Gyromax balance system.

It has all of its original parts down to even its original Vendôme fit Patek strap and 18K Patek buckle.

Its thin Patek Philippe case is scratch-free with a few very small marks on the back and signs of previous polishing.

Its silver dial presents in excellent condition with only mild aging. Please inquire if you would like a close-up of it. And its original Patek movement is clean.

One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (am $895 value).

It is running extremely strong and true, keeping time on par with a new Patek.

For the finishing touch, we have meticulously detailed it making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to the watch's performance.

Also accompanying the watch is an authentication card from Stoll & Co. / eBay's authenticators / ($80 value).

Please inquire if you would like us to obtain an extract from the Patek Philippe archives for you. Patek charges 500 CHF.
