Worn by Jennifer Aniston, Anna Wintour, and the late Princess Diana, the company's watches have long been favorites of royalty, Hollywood celebrities, and any woman desiring to wear a timepiece of distinction.
No watches better embody the best attributes of a Cartier than the renowned Tank models. Designed personally by Louis Cartier in 1917 and patterned after an army tank, it symbolized speed and achievement, and today, these watches are easily recognized across as room as a Cartier.
Before cost-cutting measures brought about the widespread use of cheaper quartz movements for many wristwatches, Cartier contracted with luxury watch manufacturers to produce mechanical movements designed to last a lifetime. Using traditional watchmaking practices, these gifted craftsmen poured individual attention into each wristwatch. As a result, mens Cartier wristwatches with mechanical movements are often more sought after by collectors than their quartz counterparts.
Today's offering showcases this classic and all-original ladies Cartier tank watch. It features an iconic tank case that is 18K gold plated over sterling silver, Cartier signed dial with a brown marbleized finish, and signed Cartier movement.
It is in honest original condition, all original down to the dial, hands, and sapphire winding crown. The case is excellent condition with light remnants of wear throughout and still retains its protective sticker. Its chocolate brown dial is original and untouched and showcases the surface crazing almost always present on these lacquered dials.
One of our watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it and installed a correct new-old-stock crystal. Included with the sale is the watch's original Cartier band. We have also installed a new Teju lizard strap with the watch's original Cartier buckle to make it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Accompanying the watch are its complete set of original Cartier box, certificate and booklets showing a sale date of March 1980.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function.
