Jaeger for Pierre Cardin Espace Space Age Mens Watch - Stainless Steel

Pierre Cardin

Item No. 9348

There are watches that tell time, and there are watches that tell stories about their time. This distinctive Pierre Cardin Espace, engineered by Jaeger, belongs firmly in the latter category. Conceived at the dawn of the 1970's, when the optimism of the space age collided with the precision of Swiss horology, it embodies an era when imagination seemed limitless.

It was haute couture meeting Swiss horology: a daring wrist sculpture built by a prestigious manufacturer.. A flowing stainless-steel cuff, with a long, graceful curvature and minimalist geometry, cradles a round display that seems to hover within its frame — like a lunar portal in wearable form.

Cardin’s vision in the early 1970s was not simply to make a watch, but to cast the wrist as a canvas of futuristic design. He wasn't content to simply follow fashion; he sculpted it. His Espace series blurred the line between object and artwork, drawing inspiration from the aerodynamics of rockets, the clean geometry of modern architecture, and the visionary culture of futurism that defined his era.

This watch was not designed to disappear under a cuff—it is large and was meant to command attention. The long, fluid stainless-steel body wraps gracefully around the wrist, a minimalist curve that feels less like a watch and more like a piece of wearable sculpture. The Espace line has been displayed in major design retrospectives and referenced by museum curators as an example of wearable art - it's the kind of object that could sit comfortably in a museum of modern design because of the way in which it reflects the same spirit of innovation and sculptural purity celebrated by the great modern designers of its era, from Eames to Prouvé.

Inside beats a manually wound movement signed by Jaeger, the same company whose technical excellence underpins Jaeger-LeCoultre’s legendary creations. Cardin tapped Jaeger’s horological expertise. It is this unlikely partnership - between the avant-garde couturier and one of Switzerland’s most prestigious watch builders - that gives the Espace its depth. Beneath the futuristic surface lies true mechanical credibility.

We were fortunate to aquire it in all-original condition down to the band and buckle.

Its case appears to have never been polished and is in excellent condition with light wear. Its untouched original dial is just short of perfect mint.

One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $695 value).

It continues to keep very accurate time.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

It so effectively expresses the intersection of couture, art, and engineering as an object of design purity and forward-thinking elegance—uncommon and historically meaningful. Whether you collect watches, design objects, or the creative spirit of the twentieth century, this is a piece that belongs in your world.
