Today's offering showcases this elegant and ultra precise Longines Flagship V.H.P. with perpetual calendar.
Its round case with steps on the lugs and multiples steps and on the bezel and black dial with traditional markers give it a classic yet sophisticated style. And its face is protected by a sapphire crystal.
While the watch has a perpetual calendar that only needs to be reset every few hundred years, that is not even the most intriguing part of the Longines V.H.P. The V.H.P. moniker stands for Very High Precision, and that is not merely marketing.
It represents an underappreciated part of Longines history. One that rivals mechanical watchmaking accomplishments.
Longines introduced the V.H.P in 1984 with the introduction of the Caliber 276.2 that used thermocompensation to achieve a rate of plus or minus 10 seconds... per year! After a full 365 days it was guaranteed to be within 10 seconds, an extraordinary achievement. Over the next more than 10 years, Longines made a few minor changes to the collection, most notably changing the second oscillator to a thermistor module (for the Caliber 273.2), but the V.H.P. mainly maintained it position as the high-end quartz offering for the brand.
A dozen years after its introduction, in 1996, the final V.H.P. Perpetual Calendar with a new ETA-developed movement with a digital calibration terminal that continued using thermocompensation and introduced a perpetual calendar date and a 3V lithium battery that was supposed to last for a decade, the last version of the V.H.P. was introduced. It was officially discontinued around 2006.
Other Swiss companies have made hyper-accurate quartz models include Breitling's Superquartz line and Omega's Spacemaster watches, but none of those actually approached the same accuracy as the V.H.P. whose precision rose to five seconds per year. At the time it was believed to be the most accurate quartz movement and wasn't surpassed until 2011by Citizen.
Our Flagship V.H.P. is in gorgeous condition - it presents as a 9.5 out of 10.
It has all of its original parts and has just undergone a true expertly done refurbishing. Its case, dial, and sapphire crystal all present as mint.
A Master Watchmaker has performed any needed servicing and installed a new battery. For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new leather strap and aftermarket Longines style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a full one-year warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
