Owned & Loved By Martin Sheen - Gevril Avenue of Americas Massive Mens Steel Annual Calendar Moonphase Watch

Gevril

Item No. 9238

Today's offering showcases this Gevril Avenue of America's massive mens stainless steel watch owned and well-loved by actor Martin Sheen. He also owned an 18K rose gold version of this watch, which he wore on the cover of WatchTime magazine and which we also own.

Sheen is an Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG award-winning actor best known for his leading role as Captain Benjamin Willard in Apocalypse Now, as U.S. President Josiah Bartlet in the television series The West Wing, and as Robert Hanson in the Netflix television series Grace and Frankie.

Mr. Sheen's Avenue of the America's watch features a massive stainless steel automatic movement with annual calendar and moonphase complications.

Made in a limited numbered edition of only 500 pieces in steel this watch is a rarity and is number 104 in the series.

Like New York City, the Gevril Avenue of Americas Moon Phase Annual Calendar 5030 has plenty of international flair, steeped equally in artistic tradition and modern refinements. Inspired by the Art Deco period, it captures the period's essence with its architecturally inspired motifs and bold, precise shape.

With an updated modern feel that blends a sense of history with current style, the watch offers a number of small artistic flourishes including a unique patterned guilloche dial with a highly stylized bold, scripted numerals display. Our photos had a hard time picking up the texturing on the dial.

The cathedral-style hands further the watch’s appeal. The prominent, geometric case ensures both wrist presence and a tailored look. For further comfort, the massive rectangular case, which makes quite a statement and can't be missed on the wrist, is slightly curved so that it wraps nicely around the wrist.

According to Gevirl, the "Avenue of Americas timepieces have been the brand’s flagship model ever since watch industry insider Samuel Friedmann acquired the historic Swiss company in 2001. Based on a case design that was discovered in Gevril’s historical archives, the iconic Avenue of Americas Collection is unmistakable. By combining a classic art deco design with sophisticated refinements like a curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal, a beautiful beveled dial and hand painted applied numbers in a variety of fashion forward colors, the Swiss made Gevril Avenue of Americas has become a modern American classic."

One of the coolest things about the watch is that it was well-worn and loved by Mr. Sheen. The original alligator band show signs of much regular wear.

The watch itself remains in excellent condition with normal signs of wear. We have not cleaned it since receiving it, so it still has bits of dirt, etc. The only overhauling we did was to have one of our Master Watchmakers disassemble the complicated movement down to the last screw and fully service it making it ready for immediate enjoyment and years of future use ($995 value). Cosmetically, we left it just as Mr. Sheen had it.

It is running extremely strong and true, keeping time on par with a brand new watch.

Accompanying the watch are its original box and booklet. Quite geniusly, the watch box also functions as a watch winder, so the watch remains ready to wear at a moment's notice without needing to be wound or to have the many complications reset.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function.

Accompanying it is a Certificate of Authenticity and Provenance from a well-known auction house, a Certificate of Authenticity from Connoisseur of Time, and a new Connoisseur of Time timing certificate attesting to its performance.

The original retail price for the watch was over $7,000.00 + tax in the mid-2000's.
