Waltham Lone Eagle GMT Large Lindbergh Inspired Aviator’s Chronometer Chronograph, Limited Production - PVD

American Watch Co./Waltham

Item No. 8569

In 1927, Charles Lindbergh piloted the Spirit of St. Louis across the Atlantic, navigating with cockpit instruments produced by Waltham. That flight helped cement the company’s legacy as a trusted maker of precision instruments. During its Swiss revival in the early 2000s, Waltham paid homage to this heritage with the Lone Eagle collection, directly named after Lindbergh’s enduring nickname.

Our example, the Lone Eagle GMT Chronograph, ref. BY-921, is among the most technically advanced models of that line. At its core is the ETA/Valjoux 7754 automatic caliber, certified by the COSC as a chronometer. This robust engine unites a 12-hour chronograph with a GMT hand, providing two of the most practical complications for aviators and international travelers. COSC certification assures accuracy, while the Valjoux platform is valued for long-term dependability and ease of service.

Its aesthetic balances presence and clarity. The big 45mm black PVD steel case is bold and resilient. The cool reverse panda dial, with silver registers, luminous Arabic numerals, luminous sword-style hands, and a red GMT arrow, provides excellent legibility and striking contrast. A screw-down back engraved with an eagle roots it firmly within the Lone Eagle line. And its onion style crown carries on its vintage aviator’s legacy.

Produced in much smaller numbers than mainstream Swiss chronographs of the same era, these Waltham Lone Eagles are uncommon. They offer collectors a compelling combination of authentic aviation heritage, chronometer-level technical credibility, and distinctive styling.

We were fortunate to acquire our example is gorgeous condition – a 9.3 out of 10.

Its case back has a few tiny hairlines. Otherwise it presents as mint. On the wrist the case presents as mint. Its dial and sapphire crystal are like new. Its overall presence is impressive.

A Master Watchmaker has performed any needed servicing making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

It is running very strong and true, keeping time essentially on par with a new chronograph.

For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to the watch’s performance.

It is both a collectible continuation of Waltham’s aviation history and a ready-to-wear chronograph for today.
