In the 1920's Patek Philippe, the unrivaled premier watchmaker in the world, on occasion made jewel encrusted ladies watches to meet the needs of their discriminating female clientele.
Today these special watches are sought-after by women of distinction, Hollywood actresses, and any lady desiring to wear a world-class timepiece.
The rare and very exclusive ladies diamond and platinum Patek Philippe watch showcased in today's offering is a prime example of this phenomenon, made for the discerning clientele Allemann of Montreux, the prestigious Swiss jeweler. We were very fortunate to acquire it.
Showcasing the sophistication of the Art Deco period, this 1927 Patek Philippe ladies wristwatch combines the firm’s unmatched watchmaking with an equally refined jeweler’s artistry. Housed in a platinum tonneau-shaped case set with factory diamonds, it retains its original Patek Philippe-signed Swiss-made case and its rare original platinum and diamond bracelet—an element often lost to time and replacement.
The 18 diamonds on its stunning case are very high quality, as one would expect from original factory set diamonds on a watch of this caliber. The case and crown are both exquisitely engraved with scroll, leaf, and floral patterns. The original platinum bracelet has an additional 35 diamonds, making 53 in total on the watch. Our photos couldn't do it justice.
Patek designed the extremely high-grade movement to maintain very accurate timekeeping even across a wide range of temperatures, positions, and even amounts of power left (isochronism), something only the highest top tier of mens movements could do. It was virtually unheard of quality for a women's movement, except for some made by Patek Philippe and a few of the highest level ladies movements from a couple other top echelon manufacturers. It is one of the very few women's watches that is truly on par with the very top-tier of men's watches.
Active primarily during the 1920s and 1930s, a golden era for Art Deco design, W. Allemann was known for presenting timepieces either made by or sold under his name that exemplified Swiss precision with decorative elegance. Examples include enamel-decorated table clocks and elegant ladies’ watches with diamond-set cases and custom designs—often Swiss-made and sometimes collaboration pieces.
Operating from the prestigious resort town of Montreux on Lake Geneva, Allemann catered to an upscale clientele seeking exquisite objects d’art.
It has all of its original parts and presents in excellent condition, appearing to have been worn only occasionally and carefully in appreciation of its quality and value and then safely stored away. Even the original bracelet is described in its Patek Philippe Archive Extract.
Its silver double signed Patek Philippe and Allemann dial is original and untouched and presents beautifully. Its exquisitely engraved case is in excellent condition with only light wear. It does not appear to have ever been polished.
Five of our Master Watchmakers worked for the five years restoring the movement of this special watch to breathe new life into it which even included custom fabricating parts to the original factory functional quality and factory quality decorated finish. (restoration value $2695).
We have also timed it on a machine that simulates it being worn on the wrist. It is keeping very accurate time.
Accompanying it is an Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives attesting to its authenticity and originality - which costs 550 CHF to obtain. Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function.
